How to Play

Three ways to play. One cup. Pick your game.

GAME 1 · THE BOOZY ROUND

The Boozy Round – Cup Golf rules
Read the Boozy Round rules as text

Same game, less serious golf. For when the round is more about the good times than the handicaps.

Objective

Play your regular round of golf, and use your one Cup Golf nomination to add penalty strokes to another player's score at the perfect moment.

Setup

  1. Give every player one Cup Golf cup at the start of the round.
  2. Play your regular round as normal.

How to Play

  1. Each player can pull out their cup once at any point during the round and nominate any other player to take the Cup Golf challenge on that hole.
  2. The nominated player fills the cup to the Start Line, drinks it, and stops wherever they think gives them the best result.
  3. Check where the drink finishes on the cup. That number is added as penalty strokes to their score for that hole.

Penalty Strokes (+add golf score)

Line Penalty
Hole-in-One +1 stroke
Birdie +2 strokes
Par +3 strokes
Bogey +4 strokes
Over / Under* +5 strokes

*Stops between lines, below the bottom line or above the top line.

Pick Your Hole Wisely

You only get one nomination for the entire round, so use it tactically. Save it for when someone is having a great hole.

Example

Your mate is flying on a hole and looks set for birdie. You pull out your cup and nominate them. They fill to the Start Line, drink, and land on Birdie (yellow). That's +2 penalty strokes, so #BirdieTurnsIntoABogey

** Please drink responsibly. For adults of legal drinking age only.

GAME 2 · ON THE COURSE

On The Course – Cup Golf rules
Read the On The Course rules as text

Bringing that "Split the G" energy between holes on the golf course - adding bogey points, bragging rights and the perfect amount of chaos.

Objective

Play to achieve the lowest combined total score (your golf score + your Cup Golf score) and avoid the forfeit. After the final hole, the player with the lowest overall score wins.

Setup

  1. Select which holes will include Cup Golf. You can use it on as many holes as you like throughout the course. The final hole must always be included.
  2. Play your regular round as normal using your handicaps and net score ... but ...
  3. At the end of each selected hole, once all players have finished their putt, it's time for the Cup Golf.

How to Play

  1. Each player plays one Cup Golf shot by filling their cup to the Start Line, then drinking down toward the target line.
  2. Where the liquid settles determines your Cup Golf score for that hole.
  3. Add your Cup Golf score to your golf score for the hole. The combined total is your final score for that hole.

Scoring (+add golf score)

Line Score
Hole-in-One 1 pt
Birdie 2 pts
Par 3 pts
Bogey 4 pts
Over / Under 5 pts

Winning

After the final hole, combine all Cup Golf and golf scores to calculate each player's total. The player with the lowest combined total score wins.

Losing & Forfeit

The player with the highest combined total score loses. The Loser has to combine all players' leftover drinks into one cup and down it to complete the #CupGolfChallenge

*** These rules apply to the golf course and golf related venues.

GAME 3 · FOR THE PARTY

For the Party – Cup Golf rules

Bringing that competitive energy to the pub, the backyard or the beach, wherever the party takes you and drinks are poured.

Objective

Play to achieve the lowest total score and avoid the forfeit. After the final hole, the player with the lowest overall score wins.

Setup

  1. Fill each Cup Golf cup to the Start Line with your drink of choice.
  2. Decide how many holes to play: 1 Hole – Party Starter, 3 Holes – Quick Round, 6 Holes – Standard Game, 9 Holes – For the Pros.
  3. Keep a Cup Golf scorecard nearby to track each player's results for this game.

How to Play

  1. Fill your cup to the Start Line.
  2. Each player takes one Cup Golf shot by drinking down to a target line to complete the hole.
  3. Wherever you stop drinking before it settles determines your score for that hole.

Scoring

Line Score
Hole-in-One 1 pt
Birdie 2 pts
Par 3 pts
Bogey 4 pts
Over / Under 5 pts

Winning

The player with the lowest total score after all holes wins the round.

Losing & Forfeit

The player with the highest total score loses. The loser(s) combine all players' leftover drinks into one cup & down it to complete the #CupGolfChallenge

*** These rules apply to not just the pub but any party, in any location, as long as it complies with local laws and the venue.

OR… MAKE YOUR OWN RULES

These are just the starting tee. Mix the games, invent new penalties, add a forfeit or two. House rules are part of the fun, so make them up as you go.
